VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Christianity and even religious belief are in grave danger across the globe, risking oblivion, Pope Benedict XVI said.

"Across vast areas of the earth, faith runs the danger of extinguishing like a flame that runs out of fuel," he said.

Maybe if we had some better role models, like, ooh, I don't know - a Vatican that seems to do something (and I don't mean keep on hiding) to its pedophile priests. Religions that don't feature suicide bombers. Religions that condemn people for their sexuality.. or perhaps the shrugging off of the dogma which reinforces stereotypical behaviour without the need to really think about stuff and, perhaps, just shrugging and saying that actually, this thing we call existence is a bit of a mystery to us too and honestly, we don't have a better explanation than the next person, if we're really truthful...
