When Tropical Storm Irene came through five weeks ago and knocked out our electricity for about 20 hours, I noticed something – no matter how many times I walked into a room, and flipped a light switch up, nothing happened. There needed to be electricity – power.
We had oil lamps burning, and for them to give light, they need oil. The oil is the energy source of the light.
And the Christian life needs power, too. And the power of the Christian life is not in ourselves, it is the Holy Spirit. Your Christian life is going nowhere without the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul went so far as to say: “Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” We don’t’ even get started in the Christian life without the Holy Spirit. We’ll be considering Key Truths about the Holy Spirit in this series, and thee are truths that make a difference between trying to live the Christian life by your power, and failing, and living by the Holy Spirit’s power.
