Maybe I should reconsider methods used on here. For a start, people only give points on the front page when they want to get notifications from threads, so perhaps I'll just create a [tag] or star button instead of the up down arrows on the front page, so people are subscribed but only get reminders for new posts etc, plus they can look at a list of threads they were last interested in.

It'd be nice to be able to reward threads more directly too...
