I think I finally found something we can agree on!

Yesterday we were bantering back and forth on this thread: http://www.teoti.co.uk/politics/113317-couldnt-have-put-it-better.html and it came to pass that we were talking about if Planned Parenthood id Federally funded, perhaps the Catholic Church should be as well.

Guess what.... it is.

Yup, the good ol' RCC receives a good amount of Federal funding to run its charities while 'ensuring' that the money doesn't go to religious practices. Yeah, right.

Well, same principle applies to them as it does to PP. There should be no tax money, money taken from Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, Agnostics, Atheists, and all the other non-Catholics, going to an organization that pushes an agenda they morally disagree with.

So what say you? Can we partner up on this cause? It's not as though the Vatican is hurting for cash.

I will support you in your cause...
But with not much more than scepticism over what the RCC says they do with the funds I can not go whole hog.

Which is why I believe PP is not misusing the funds they recieve.
It is not so much that I do not believe either case as that they both deserve the respect to not pass an unproven judgement.

now if you use V's criteria... yup... the RCC is as guilty as can be. (just as he thinks of PP)

Like legalizing weed...

As for V, I agree with his position, the RCC is as guilty as PP. Bottom line, I do not think private groups should receive public funds.

As much as I personally despise the church without indisputable evidence it is not worth the fight.

I just wish you could say the same for PP.
The millions that both serve allow a bit of wiggle room in my mind.

So, the burden of proof is on the person handing out the money and not on the one receiving it?

Either way, it doesn't help to make sure none of your money goes to killing Jews if you help pay for the ovens.

I actually mean it when I say no private entities (with the exception of the poor) should receive public funding. No corporations, religious groups, hospitals, clinics, soup kitchens, private museums, unions, Boy Scouts, The National Pagan Circle of America, etc.

That is NOT the purpose of the Federal (and I would argue State) Government.

If you want your money to go to any of the causes you agree with... write a check.

The Feds, the stateys, even the city governments hand out grants to all sorts of non-profits (and then there's the for profit entities, you know, the guys that make jet fighters, military satellites, aircraft carriers, guns, uniforms, food, fuel...).

I know they do it. I don't agree with it.

There is also a difference between paying for a service or product or hiring an individual, and giving money away. I am against the latter.
