What is your favorite Christmas memory?

I have two.  One, when my sister came home, a Christmas baby, and I was four and got to hold her!

Then, the year I got a bike!  I was 10, and had that until I was in my twenties and it got stolen.

Let's be sincere. Eating good food and sharing quality time with the family was secondary. All I cared about at that age was presents, and my favorite present was a Transformer that turned into a jet fighter.

Heh. Cool half-robot-half-aeroplane toys aside, there is one particular Christmas I remember the most - I was probably in the second or third grade at the time. My parents made me dress up as Santa Clause and deliver presents to all our neighbours. I wore a red hat and suit, a cotton beard, and a pillow strapped to my stomach under the jacket. I still don't know how my parents came up with that crazy idea, but it made a lot of people happy.

Quaektem

My Christmases as a kid I guess it would have to be the year my Uncle Greg visited and gave us an Atari.

But my favorite Christmas, the one that outshines all others was four years ago.

When my youngest daughter was born on December 19th she inhaled merconium (baby poop in the womb). She was in critical condition until the morning after Yule (the 22nd). Since my wife was pregnant none of the shopping had been done and while juggling two kids, visiting the hospital to be with my wife and daughter, and doing all the Christmas shopping, wrapping, and getting a tree (including my own present which I also wrapped and stuffed under the tree), and preparing Christmas dinner (yup, made a whole spread for 12) Isabelle came home on Christmas Day. No Christmas before or since has come even close to that one.

Mine was the 1st Christmas with my son. He was such a funny little boy. Played with the wrapping paper, sitting in his excesaucer spinning around. Every year prior to that we spent with the in-laws (I like them, but this was the first for us as a family) We got a Christmas tree ornament with my son's picture on it, and have put it up every year since.

I can clearly remember, as a very young Wombat, sitting at the end of the table at home and suddenly hearing the bells on Father Christmas's sleigh. I'm not even sure it was Christmas Eve but it must have been close, it was dark outside and I heard them get louder and then seem to veer away and disappear again. I decided this had happened because he knew I was still awake!

To this day I don't know whether it was someone outside (my parents once drew hoofprints in the heavy frost outside but wouldn't let me get up on the roof to check around the chimney!) or whether I dreamed it, high on a combination of childish anticipation and warm milk... Either way, it was one of those very rare moments in life when you feel a little magic zinging in the air!

My dad and the neighbor got drunk and interviewed an elf checking up on my sister and me.  I have the reel to reel tape!  I really need to figure out how to put that online!
